Joel has 28 years of experience in the financial services industry. He began his career in 1992 joining J.P. Morgan’s Investment Banking Program and spent the next twelve years based in New York, Tokyo and San Francisco assisting corporate clients with mergers, acquisitions and capital raising transactions.
Joel transitioned to investment management in 2004, joining Standard Pacific Capital, a $4.5 billion global investment advisor based in San Francisco. In 2009, Joel was named Managing Partner and joined the firm’s Risk Committee. In 2013 Joel and his team launched Two Ocean Capital, a global investment advisor which was later acquired by Citadel. Joel continued as a Portfolio Manager at Citadel before returning to his home state of Wyoming to launch Two Ocean Trust in 2019.
In 2019 Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon appointed Joel to the Investment Funds Committee Selection Panel. The IFC directly advises the State on managing its $22 billion sovereign fund. In 2020 Governor Gordon appointed Joel to the Select Committee on Blockchain, Financial Technology and Digital Innovation.
Joel earned bachelor’s degrees from the University of Oregon in Finance and Japanese Language and Literature and studied abroad at Obirin University in Japan. Joel also studied in the Master of Liberal Arts program at Stanford University.
Joel has served on numerous boards including First Bank of Wyoming, the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, the Jackson Hole Land Trust, and the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation.
